Allan Shapiro, Board Member

Allan Shapiro is originally from Montreal and obtained a B.Sc. in math/physics from Sir George Williams University in 1967. He spent four years at McGill University in the Faculty of Dentistry and graduated in 1972 with a Gold Medal in Periodontics. Dr. Shapiro opened a dental office in Ottawa where he practiced for 22 years.

In 1979 he received a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, the first Canadian to receive this designation. He retired in 1994 and moved to Vancouver. He spent a year at Dentsply Ltd. as an implant/prosthodontic consultant. In 1997, in partnership with two colleagues, he formed a pharmaceutical company called ALDA pharmaceuticals. This company specialized in customized infection control products. In 2006 ALDA merged with DUFT Biotech Ltd., becoming a publicly traded company.

Allan retired from ALDA in 2012 and moved to Pender Island in 2013. He has been on the Society board since 2018.
