Karen Bell, Board Member

Karen started life in Deep Cove in North Vancouver, but spent her first 18 years living in many of Canada’s major cities with her family. After graduating with a BA in Economics, she obtained her law degree and settled in Toronto.

Her 38-year legal career spanned 20 years as a large firm business litigator followed by postings in non-practicing roles in national law firms pioneering new approaches to practice, driving productivity and growth by focusing on efficiency and client service.  She developed firm-wide platforms to promote knowledge sharing, build resilience to risk and develop business strategically. She wrote about and presented on a wide variety of legal, ethics and practice management topics, and held leadership roles in the legal and business communities.

Karen and her husband, Tom, were captured by the magic of Pender in 2017 and have lived fulltime on Bricky Bay since then. Although retired from law, she has become a fiercely proud Penderite who finds herself very busy with managing their property and engaging in island activities and initiatives.

The existence of Pender Islands Health Centre was at first a wonderful, comforting surprise, but has now become an essential aspect to living here. Karen sees her new role of director as an opportunity to help ensure its secure and vibrant future as a facilitator for health and wellness services.
